A mountain lion attacked Spirit's herd on Punta Libre, injuring the foal Governor and killing Governor's mother. Aunt Cora and the PALs became aware of the presence of the mountain lion in the area when they noticed scratch marks left on a tree trunk; Pru's father later brought the injured Governor back to the barn, and told Aunt Cora that with all the activity from the railroad, the mountain lion would move on from the vicinity soon. The mountain lion subsequently injured Spirit during a nighttime electrical storm and threatened Lucky's life, before being scared off by shotgun blasts delivered into the air by Aunt Cora riding upon Señor Carrots.[1]
