"Lucky and the Shaky Day" is the eighteenth episode of Spirit Riding Free, and the fifth episode of the third season.

Plot synopsis

Lucky and her friends discover a railroad bridge out and determine to cross it. Pru manages to swing across with a lariat, but Abigail becomes stuck, dangling hundreds of feet in the air midway over the broken bridge. Lucky leaps to try to push Abigail across.

The episode flashes back in time to the previous day. Lucky practices tricks with her friend, Javier, who hangs off his saddle, sweeps lucky off the ground and lifts her onto the saddle. Later he tells her that he will be performing in a rodeo the next day in the nearby town of Silverlode, which interests Lucky. That night at the dinner table, Lucky's father, Jim, tells her he needs to go to Silverlode the next day to attend to a defective railroad track switch. Lucky says she wants to come with him, but he forbids her, the next day being a school day. An argument ensues, and Jim grounds Lucky until he returns home to Miradero. She tells him she hopes he doesn't come back, and storms up to her room. She avoids him before going to school the next day.

In class, an the schoolhouse shakes with an earthquake, and class is disrupted. Lucky looks for her Aunt Cora to see if she is all right, and the PALs help her and the other townspeople put out a fire in one of the buildings in town. Lucky regrets her mean words to her father, and goes with Pru and Abigail to check the integrity of the railroad. There is an aftershock and Pru and Chica Linda save Boomerang from running away, while Lucky and Sprirt save Abigail from falling off a cliff, using Javier's trick. Sure enough, they find a railroad bridge is broken, and the train with Jim aboard is heading straight toward it. The three determine to light a signal fire to warn the train, but they know they need to get closer for the train to see it. Pru]] manages to swing across the broken bridge with a lariat, but Abigail becomes stuck, dangling hundreds of feet in the air midway over the broken bridge. Lucky leaps to try to push Abigail across, and miraculously succeeds in pushing them both to safety. Quickly, Lucky and her friends start a smoke signal to warn the engineer, and the train engine stops just short of the broken bridge. Lucky apologizes to her father, who forgives her, and, returning home to find the house in shambles from the earthquake, Lucky, Jim, and Aunt Cora go out to dinner.
